Preformed Suspension Clamps (SCL)

Purpose

1.The function of preformed suspension clamps is similar to that of common suspension clamps: they are used to suspend conductors and ground wires on transmission towers. The key difference is that preformed suspension clamps not only control guard wires effectively but also greatly reduce corona discharge due to their smooth outer profile. Thus, they are especially suitable for ultra-high-voltage lines (≥220 kV), as well as long-span crossings over rivers and large-angle transmission towers (30–60°) when used as suspension clamps for support points.

2.Preformed suspension clamps utilize preformed suspension sets and preformed guard wires. They are designed to alleviate static and dynamic stresses at support points, protecting conductors and ground wires from wind-induced effects. Meanwhile, they shield guard wires from impact and electrical abrasion at the supports. As an excellent integrated suspension assembly, preformed suspension clamps 3.protect conductors from bending stress, compressive stress, and abrasion.

    Functional Features

    Optimal Stress Distribution
    Preformed suspension clamps distribute the stress acting on the conductor over a large area, significantly reducing the impact of bending, shear, and static stresses. This greatly enhances the conductor’s ability to resist stress. Moreover, when the conductor undergoes galloping or oscillation, it is less likely to be damaged at the suspension point.
    Gripping Force from Preforming
    The preformed strips of the suspension clamp can withstand substantial unbalanced loads on both sides of the suspension point, preventing the conductor from slipping. As a result, conductor abrasion is minimized.
    Anti-aging and Toughness
    The preformed strips of the suspension clamp are made from the same material as the conductor, providing excellent elasticity and toughness. Compared to rigid components like bow-shaped guard wires, they offer stronger resistance to aging and vibration fatigue, ensuring long-term safe operation.
    Superb Electrical Performance
    The unique design of preformed suspension clamps reduces electromagnetic losses. Their smooth, rounded ends (instead of sharp edges) eliminate corona discharge, guaranteeing no corona occurs. When the conductor angle is between 30°–60°, double-hook suspension clamps connect to insulator strings (see the diagram below).
